  • 22 Matches In Charge

Especially for Pete as we all know how much he loves Sousa!

    De Canio - 3 Nov 07 (1st Match in Charge) - 26 Feb 08 (22nd Match in Charge)

    P22, W8, D6, L8 - Pts 30

    Sousa - 25 Nov 08 (1st Match in Charge) - 21 Mar 09 (22nd Match in Charge)

    P22, W7, D10, L5 - Pts 31

Arguably, I could have compared De Canio's last 22 matches in charge but this is a comparison of both managers first 22 matches in charge. De Canio's teams included Manciennce, Vine and Buzsaky whereas Sousa's had Routledge, Lopez and Gorkss but not vice versa.

Thanks for digging those stats out.

Pretty even between the two. Better attacking football from LDC, better defending from PS. What can PS do with Vine and Buzz........

Dowie - 12 league matches in charge (didn't have the luxury of reaching 22)

          P12, W5, D3, L4 - Pts 18

          Points Per Game
          Dowie - 1.5
          Sousa - 1.41
De Canio - 1.38 (34 league matches from 1st Match to Resignation)

Arguably De Canio had the toughest job taking the team from 24th to 14th whereas Dowie started on zero but without Vine, Buzsaky and Rowlands (for the opening few matches). Sousa has taken us from 12th to 11th.

The stat allows you to read whatever you want to read but the belief that De Canio was head and shoulders above other recent managers is wrong.

There isn't much between them really, With the only consistency being the players it goes a long way to explaining why we are sitting comfortably in mid table. Have to edge nearer to 1.75pts a game for promotion

Great to see the Stats but we cant change the past, both Di Canio and Dowie are gone and with Sousa i feel he will guide us to the top if given a chance.

Would like to have compared De Canio's last 22 games

So from your stats on Sousa, we drew too many?

I know I enjoyed most games under De canio, under Dowie and Sousa I have been depressed watching most games this season.

It's a good point. Stats are stats however, how you lose or draw...as in the entertainment factor...is a big thing IMHO.

You can stomach a draw (and sometimes even a loss) if the players give 101% and its an entertaining game.

At times we've had some dire games this year - including some wins!

However, the last two games have really changed that and we're looking like we want to play attacking exciting football which bodes well!

Agree, although it does coincide with the fact that Sousa now doesnt have to play Legs on the wing

At the end of the season when Sousa has had 28 matches I'll compare De Canio's last 28 with his. I agree with fatgod1 that De Canio and Dowie are the past and whatever these stats show neither are in charge. I also agree with Scott that the football was better under De Canio but a fair reflection of Sousa will be what is the football like when he has Buzsaky and Vine in his side.

                          first 20 games,

Any chance we could see the squads or teams?

Bearing in mind only 1 point difference?

I did the first 20 on the old board a couple of weeks ago and De Canio was ahead by a couple of points, which shows how close their records are.

Are Birmingham, Reading, Derby, Swansea, Doncaster and Forest of this year easier or tougher than West Brom, Hull, Stoke, Leicester, Colchester and S****horpe of last year?
