Sheffield United keeper Paddy Kenny faces a lengthy ban for failing a drugs test in a vital play-off match.

The Republic of Ireland star has been found guilty of taking a ‘banned’ substance in a medicine before the semi-final play-off with Preston at the end of last season.

Both A and B tests revealed Kenny failed and now he and the Blades are awaiting the verdict - and punishment. He could be banned for between six months and two years.

come on be fair it was a banned substance that was in medicine. it's not as if he intentionally took a performance enhancing drug.

many of these banned drugs a found in everyday medicines that we wouldn't think twice in taking

Ephedrine also happens to be something that can be used as a stimulant doing exercise, and does something about helping you sweat in a big way, so when you do weights it puts more muscle on or something, not too sure how the latter works.

He's been taking a slimming substitute by all accounts which had a banned substance in it. What a silly billy! Everyone knows you simply have a few puffs on an Asthma Inhaler prior to a drugs test to mask out all substances. Can't beat a bit of Salbutamol Sulphate and Salmeterol & Fluticasone to hide your mischiefious ways!!!

lemsip has banned substances in it...dennis wise missed an fa cup semi cos of one lemsip!!!

crazy...if coke, cannabis...yeah or steroids, then throw the book but if a lemsip or cold remedy??? a warning should do..the ephidrine dose is minute....

Spot on mate. If he's been naughty helping out Tevez's Argentine cousins or he has been misusing drugs then he deserves the book chucked at him, but if it's a prescribed drug by a doctor then a warning should be enough. Hopefully common sense will prevail.
