Sad to say but I remember being in the Leppings Lane end at Hillsborough a few weeks before the disaster that led to so many people losing their lives. I remember feeling claustrophobic upon entering through the narrow, low ceilinged gangway that led to the lower terrace where away fans were put.

Why it was so confined is anyones guess. Once you entered the terrace a wonderfully enormous Spion Kop faced you from straight opposite- apparently it held 27000 fans when it was terracing and was the largest terrace in England - it equalled the 27000 capacity of Loftus Road at the time.

West Ham was always pretty scary.A few of their "boys" always came in the away section. Not pleasant.
