  • So was it Simon Cox that insideman was hinting at yesterday?

    http://www.qprdot.org/viewtopic.php?t=37046

as supplied by Dave B (good work Dave) from the local papers

few bits from Paul Warburton in the Paddington mercury.

We are in talks to get Simon Cox from Swindon, they want £1.5million we are offering 500k going upto £1million if we go up so that looks like it won't happen.

Alan Curbishley has been ruled out as manager as he is in a legal case against West Ham. They also reckon Wise, pardew and fergusson are out of the running as well and Flavio will pick a manager when he gets back from F1 duty next week

shame we won't meet their price :anger:

dont worry lads. red bull have bought a box, the c-club will have nice food and we will get bar coded season tickets. if that isnt enough to make you part with a large chunk of your cash, i dont know what will.

No one ever pays the asking price these days no matter what the commodity. They want 1.5 we offer .5 so hopefully 1mill will do the trick.Would be a good buy(risky - but worth it )

And there in lies the problem. Would Brawn allow Sir Alex Ferguson to pick his drivers next year?

Oh they are such a happy bunch on that forum. Clearly the attitude to our tight fisted board, faith and belief in newspaper reports and a willingness to spend the boards money for them whatever the terms attitude is endemic across the board.
Yes a Cox type player would be a good move, even if he is unproven at this level and yes he would be worth the investment - but only the board and the agents know the reality of any deal, offer or player wage demands. If it happens then great, if it doesn't then cue more of the same attitudes and on to the next story :exciting:

Nope, he's not too much money, £1.5m is EXACTLY what I'd expect the top scorer in League One to go for. £1.5m is, however, more than our owners wish to pay. They are quite happy to pay equivalent compensation to managers they get rid of for daring to have an opinion on football matters and probably have a budget of around £4m ready in compensation packages for the coming season, but its too much to spend on a good, capable, young player.

Going up 'the right way' means spending f-all on the team, millions on the Playboy club in South Africa Road and finishing 10th next season (progress, you see)...

Nothing wrong with a bit of haggling though

We paid a million for Connolly after all, I honestly believe if a case can be made to part with a substantial amount of money then it will be paid.

Look what our "haggling" did with Ben "he's in the bag" Watson.....

So if to go the extra, 500,000 to get this lower league player who has had one good season in a poor team scoring against the likes orient and carlisle we all had to dip into our pockets and our season tickets went up £50 and just say the step up in class was a bit too much for the lad.....oh maybe we shouldn't go down that road. could this guy be this seasons ched evans!

No. You are missing the point. Flavio is a retailer and Formula One team manager. Quite why the decision is solely his, with his minimal footballing experience is beyond me. Other than of course "its his money, he can do what he wants". You'd have thought someone as "successful" as Briatore might have appointed someone/a consultant to make this important decision for him? He's done woefully so far, what has changed that will make this next decision successful?

flavio is indeed lots of things in the same way delia is a chef, john madjeski is an auto trader, etc etc, you are assuming the decision is solely his, maybe his consultant is already at the club a certain mr Paladini and maybe there really lies the problem!
