When is a reasonable timeframe to be recruiting an up and coming striker, or strikers plural?
The context: Conor Washington has been gone since August 2018. Idrissa Sylla since January 2019. Thus, we’ve had 18 months, at least, to have scouted new, young, promising strikers from the lower leagues. Realistically, we’ve had even longer as the club have long since known Washington and Sylla were not good enough, and not being retained.
Some questions: what has our scouting department been up to during the last 18 months? Why have we not made any progress in the striker department? Why have we not taken a chance on a lower league strikers or strikers? Are we being too cautious because of the failings of the Washington transfer?
The role of key club positions and major responsibilities:
The role of the CEO is to balance the books whilst still being competitive. Progress being made.
The role of the technical director and coaches is to improve young players. Progress being made.
The role of the manager is to mange, coach and adopt a clear style of play which we have lacked for years. Progress being made.
The role of the DoF is to....? Identify gaps in the team/squad, work with the manger and scouting, and bring new players in? Are we making enough progress here? We have several alarming gaps in the side and have done for some time, beyond just strikers. Centre midfield, full backs, and centre halves.
The club knew, or should of known, the likelihood of Nakki Wells staying was low probability. 15 goals will attract plenty of clubs in the championship and did. Where was our contingency plan? And if we didn’t have one, which we clearly didn’t, why not? Who is responsible?
