  • Oxford Utd Match Thread

QPR boss Mark Warburton has called for his players to raise the intensity of their game ahead of the R’s trip to Oxford United on Saturday afternoon. (kick-off 3pm).

Rangers head to the Kassam Stadium looking to get their first win of pre-season and speaking to www.qpr.co.uk before the game, the R’s boss expressed his team’s need to “get tight and get close” to their opposition, as well as to “retain and regain” the ball.

“We absolutely have to step up tomorrow,” the manager said. “I was disappointed at Boreham Wood in terms of our intensity and you can control that.”

“We need to improve in a number of key areas and the work has been done this week. It’s important we work on that, that type of design and intensity to win the ball and maximise that possession - that’s really important to us.”

The R’s opponents come into the game on the back of a busy pre-season schedule, which has already included six games, and Warburton stressed the importance of this time of year.

He said: “You look at the results in mid-week, like Barnet and these types of results, that’s the nature of pre-season. It’s about bedding in new players; bedding in new ideas. What we have to do is recognise the importance of every game.”

In terms of team news, the 56-year-old claimed there will be no changes in Oxfordshire, with the same squad of 18 heading to the Kassam. He did reveal that Rangers may try something new.

He said: “We’re still looking at different players in different positions and you may see people move around a bit. It’s just us as new management getting to know what players can and can’t do.”

After the trip to Oxford, Rangers face Watford at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium next weekend, before the EFL season kicks-off the following week at Stoke.

Tough game for us against Oxford....... Football
      Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
      And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

I like the idea of trying something new, we were to static last game.

Oxford United striker Jamie Mackie set to make first appearance of pre-season against QPR

JAMIE Mackie is confident of being on track to be fully fit for the opening day of the season as he prepares to make his first pre-season appearance this afternoon.

The 33-year-old is Oxford United's only specialist centre forward, but has been kept out of the friendly matches by a back problem.

But after returning to full training this week, Mackie has been earmarked to play 30 minutes against Queens Park Rangers at the Kassam Stadium.
