  • 50 years an R

    Fellow R’s

Today is a bit of an anniversary for me. 50 years ago today, on Saturday 1st March 1969 I watched my first match at Loftus Rd.

We played Arbroath in a friendly, we won 6-3, Rodney Marsh got a hat trick.

50 years of mainly rough, with a little smooth.
I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

beat you by 4 years Dave, maybe more, but spent the early years rolling down the hill rather than watch Bedford and the Brady brothers et al
I must away now, I can no longer tarry

51st year for me......went to that Arbroath game, it was mid season, god knows why we played them.
remember standing in the boys enclosure behind the loft goal with me uncle and his mate.
remember Arbroath having a little ginger fellow, wing half or on the wing, he was everywhere that day,
but couldn't stop the r's knocking in 6...couple of thousand at the game, all I can remember as an 11 year old.

I believe the games was arranged for Marsh’’s return from injury, he had a broken ankle, it was an FA 6th cup day, we’’d been knocked out of in the 3rd round at Villa.

I was in the boys enclosure that day as well, then stood there throughout the early 70’s, loved it.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, I ‘ve got a long way to go to catch up on some of you though, I wonder if the new ground will be built when I reach 67 years supporting Rangers

Another good thing about that day, the Stamford Bridge scum lost 2-1 at home to West Brom in the cup.
