  • Rowett gone

No surprise he's gone - but it is surprising to me how badly he's done. Maybe it's Hughesless's toxic legacy. Before we appointed Olly I was calling for Rowett, I think a lot of us were.

I rate Rowett massively. Sadly it just didn’t work out for him

He will be back this season, I’m sure of it
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

I rate him as well but Stoke are underachieving in this league and his sacking reflects that.
It will be interesting to see where he pops up next.

Needs to find a club where he can prove himself again.

I thought Stoke were gonna canter through this league, straight back up with 100pts. They have massively underachieved and I was massively wrong!

We managed to escape him and Clement. Bit lucky there.

Stoke has got to be a job tailor made for Sam Allardyce.

I thought he was a good manager, but perhaps he's been found out a bit at Stoke. I'm pretty sure he inherited a pretty awful dressing room there, but he's never played a particularly attractive brand of football anywhere he's been. What is for certain is that we are far better off with MacLaren!

Hughes did the damage at Stoke like he did with us and Southampton. Rowett went to the wrong club and will prove his worth in time at the right club. Hughes really should be banned from managing again as every club he manages are crippled by his poor management.

Definitely. Unfortunately for us next season. One less place to aim for.

It has proven again and again that it is very difficult to stop a rot like big relegated sides tend to experience. When teams are left with over overpaid players and big egos that deem themselves too good for the Championship they often end up with a very toxic dressing room. The great documentary "Sunderland till I die" gave us first hand insight.

There was hardly a more dysfunctional club in the Championship than QPR a couple of seasons ago. We have to judge the job Ramsey and JFH did in that light. It was probably a better job than we gave them credit for. Simon Grayson and Chris Coleman are not useless managers, but they could not prevent Sunderland from dropping further down. I think Rowett has had a tough job and I am not quite sure his successor will do much better this season.

Those that don't believe Holloway did a very decent job has to bear in mind that he inherited the same type of problems (Caulker, Sandro etc). He stopped the rot, turned things around and even though we did only finished lower mid table last season he represented progress and built a good fundament for Steve.

McClaren has turned out to be a fantastic acquisition, but it should not cloud the fact Holloway also did well. Rowett, Coleman and a few other decent managers are good reminders of that.
