  • Understanding QPR's FFP

Pretty good video explaining it all if interested...

    Yup, recommended. Good shout.

It highlights that FFP has never really been the issue because the background money dwarfs the sanction so comprehensively. Awful decision making has been the real issue.

The staggering thing is that given the resources made available to the club by the incoming Team Uncle it is absolutely amazing that we still find ourselves lower in the table than we did when he arrived. For me, still a jaw dropping fact.

Many clubs will face sanctions. Championship clubs are now spending more on transfers than we ever did without the premier money coming on to cover it. Yet we are chastised by other football fans and media while the spending the has gone on for the last few years in the premier and championship has gone through the roof but only now it seems to be commended. One rule and view for us and a completely different one for others. Yes we f ucked up but other clubs are now spending much much more and nothing is said.

But as the video implies, the FFP sanction wasn't really a game changer for us. And had we made some better decisions re recruitment on and off the park, the eventual sanction would barely have scratched the budget's surface. Even as things stand, it could have been far worse.

No one should be any doubt why we are where we are. It has very little to do with the sanction and a lot to do with consistently poor decision making.

Kieran McGuire is a bit of a #### and clearly a bitter Derby fan.

All good and well saying we spent to much on wages when we came down, but until the law of the land allows businesses to tear up contracts and pay vastly reduced amounts then you pay what is agreed.

Totally pointless, one sided video which forgets derby have overspent too over last few seasons but no mention of them keeping other sides out play offs the seasons they done it denying them opportunity of promotion. DCFC bankrobbers

Forest added another two players to their wage bill this week. About 15 new players since the summer. Completely nuts....

Perfectly put, the bloke is clearly bitter.
Good point about players contracts too, what’s a club supposed to do with a player who still has a year or two left on their contract. Shows what a complete joke FFP is.

                            Agreed.

QPR had over 20 players earning big wages on the books having signed them as a Premiership club or given them pay rises on winning promotion. They managed to off load some via loans or paying off their contracts, but they were not able to do so with all of them.

Cisse, Diakite, Ferdinand, Mbia Granero Taarabt Remy (at least 7 players left the now Championship squad), However, others like SWP, Traore, Cesar, Johnson refused to move on or no other club wanted or could affford them. Then the likes of Zamora Green Onouha and Barton may or may not have wanted to move on, but ended up staying.

In other words it was a nigh on impossibilty that QPR would have been able to meet the FFP rules given that paying off the players in full would have added to the club's losses anyway. QPR would have had to do this with most of the
squad and then replaced them all with free transfers and loans and then still probably have lost more money that season in doing so.

Yes, Maguire comes across as a bitter fan.

It is also true that the whole mess is the doing of Uncle Bungle who agreed on all those big contracts being given out and had appointed the hapless Beard as Chief Executive.

But his analysis of FFP is pretty accurate. He accepts that the system is flawed. What he fails to point out is that it actually re-enforces the status quo since it helps ensure the biggest, wealthiest clubs stay that way.

The real point here is, as you say, that uncle was the architect of the mess we found ourselves in - and that has nothing whatsoever to do with anyone else, embittered or otherwise.
