  • And the Dream Manager is.................MICK MCCARTHY!!!!

He has spent only £10 thousand pounds on his squad at Ipswich using youth, lower league scouted bargains and a couple of loan players and they are on the verge of the playoffs for the 2nd successive season.
He has a history of getting up from the championship and staying up apart from one bad year with wolves, and look what happened to them when he was gone. He could be tempted by actually having access to a transfer budget.

    More detailed history from wiki

1993-94 finished 3rd in championship with Millwall losing in playoffs to Derby.
In 1996 he left Millwall 14 points clear of relegation (although they still went down without him) to take the Republic of Ireland job.

1996 became Republic of Ireland boss. Narrowly missed out on qualification to 1998 world cup and 2000 euros, 2002 qualified for world cup and made it past group stages losing to Spain on penalties after missing a penalty during the game. And without the services of Roy Keane who had spat his dummy and did not play in the tournament.

2003 took over towards the end of the season at Sunderland when they looked doomed. He could not save them, but the following season they lost on penalties in the play offs to Palace who had scored a stoppage time equalizer. The following season he took them up as champions with 94 points.

2006 Wolves. Again with youth players, lower league signings and free transfers, He made the playoffs in 2006. The following season 2007 They came 7th only missing out on the playoffs by goal difference. 2008 He pulled it off in style, Top of the league for 42 of the 46 game season. And kept Wolves in the Premier League for 2 successive seasons.

2012 Ipswich. The first season was about guiding them to safety from bottom of the league and run of 13 matches without a win, He put together a run of 13 matches without a defeat and dragged them up to 14th place. The following year took 9th place. And this year 5th place with 1 game left.

All this done without virtually any transfer budget. Is there any other choice??

Forget all this talk of Paul Clement. A cold drizzly Tuesday night in Rotherham or Huddersfield is not the same as contesting champions league glory with galacticos.

He improves clubs wherever he has been, usually without any money.

Micks ok. Well he's more than ok. I just don't want another dinosaur at the club. Sounds harsh but we have a decent manager thee already. He has the right philosophy. No more has beens. Wants to focus on youth and play attacking fast football.

He just can't implement that right now as hasn't got the tools. He deserves chance. Let's keep our good young talent go and add a few decent players from the championship with good futures and let's see how he does.

Signing these outdated managers will always have the same result. It's astonishing how English clubs continue to go for the same managers. Time to think outside the box..

For what it's worth MCCarthy's one of the better ones out there.

After all we've been through, especially the last 8 odd years with all the money we've had/got and it all boils down to Mick focking McCarthy as 'the dream manager' what a focking joke!!.... I like to think as a club we've got a tad more ambition than to appoint this focking dinosaur to bring us forward into the future as a club!

To all of you using the words DINOSAUR and HAS BEEN.

His team is 5th TODAY....as we speak.

                    With no money.

Wouldnt we like to be in that position (or even better) this time next season??????
Or stick with an unproven but decent manager who has never got a club promoted or saved them from relegation?

And where do you think they would be in the Premiership???.... Im not saying we get a Jose Mourinho in, but at least get some one in who can possibly get us promoted and 'potentially' keep us up. Instead of d1cking about with different managers all the time..... by the way Mick McCarthy has a grand total of 30% win rate in the premiership with 6 years in it. If he takes us up, he'll take us straight down again!

Talking about the money that has been spent in the last 8 years. With Mccarthy we would have had a solid youth setup, bargains from lower divisions and continuous playoff football.

But "thinking outside the box" with the millions spent in the last few years, all the mercenaries signed and even "THE HARRY REDKNAPP" (to quote TF) at the helm, we finished the championship with 80 points, Ipswich have 78 points with one game to go. How many of their squad can you name without googling it?? exactly!!
Which of the 2 clubs present and long term future is questionable?

We would be a HUGELY different club if Mccarthy had been in charge for all this time. and 6 seasons in the premier league speaks for itself. I wonder how much money he spent to achieve that compared to what we have spent over the last few years.

I see 2 scenarios. Either Ipswich will be in the premier league next season while spending less than Burnley, and we will be in the championship with millions of debt.

                        OR

We will be playing them next year in the championship and I dont fancy our chances.

Make sure you leave plenty of room for the humble pie that you will be eating.

Can't argue with the stats. Fair p,au, think he'd be good here
                          Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
                          And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Apologies toninho that 6 years in the premiership with 30% win rate is wrong.... its 20% with 3 seasons in the Premiership (plus 2 months with Sunderland)

McCarthy is ok and completely understand why you have suggested him as a championship manager. Personally I just want a younger guy who's going to be here for the next 3,4 or 5 years building a team.

Mick just has get promoted and get sacked 6 months later written all over him imo.
