I'm wildly optimistic that we'll finish in a comfortable mid-table position.

On the contrary, I would say that things might have already gone bad enough and the back seat taking idea is too late to implement now. OTOH, better late than never. Those among us who are religious might find comfort in praying, I wish I was like that. If relegated again this season, we will be as good as finished.

The way things have been looking on the pitch past few matches, does it look like we'll be in the bottom 3 in May?

Plenty of time to go, no need to press the panic button so you can put it away now.

Away shite but we have lost to all top ten teams apart from man city. Bottom ten teams 3 wins , draw and loss

It's good to see these rose coloured threads but there is only one stat that counts - position in the table, which is of course determined by points on the board. Right now we are headed for 32 points for the season and relegation. We need to be better than we have been in order to stay up.

At start of season I boiled it down to just picking up 4 points a month. That might not guarantee survival but that sort of rate would mean we'd never be cut adrift and we'd go into final phase of games with a fighting chance. Same sort of logic/approach still applies but cos of our sluggish start and duff form on the road we're probably looking at needing 5 points per month now. Thing is, that ain't too stretching a target and it's all about chugging along, taking the games in bunches, not getting despondent if we go a few games pointless and to bounce back and keep chipping away at the monthly target.
Key thing so far is all our away games appear to have been against top half clubs.... that means we must have a lot of away games to come against bottom half clubs; these are the ones we need to start picking up some points from, if we can do that we can conceivably get quite comfy in mid-table area.

The problem is that it also means we need to play the top half teams at LR... I still expect 9th though
