As has been said the game is much faster than in the days of Stan Bowles meaning much more difficult for mavericks to thrive.

From an entertainment perspective you do get the odd moment but also a lot of frustration with continually poor set pieces and shooting which also result in us losing possession and coming under unnecessary pressure.

If we were still in the Championship I'd be curious to see if he could recapture his form of three or so years ago but don't feel in the Premiership we can afford the luxury.
Given standard of opposition I'd say Adel's form actually peaked towards the end of Hughes, in late 2012. He was a better player at that point (and still is now, presumably) than he ever was running rings round Championship defenders.

Point taken re pace. But he's much stronger than most people realise, with that Dembele/Zidane/Gazza style ability to hunch over the ball and shrug off challenges. That can compensate for some of the pace - it's not as though the top teams don't have a few talented slowcoaches (Cazorla, Mata)

You haven't said what is tosh, you're just making assertions. Engage with the arguments, explain why what I'm saying is wrong. Give it a try!
No Thank You, I've seen you banging on about your boyfriend Adel for long enough now.

Agree on him peaking under Hughes. What he did though was keep passes simple, track back a bit and be more of a team player. However that was one short spell. Done nothing much since then. Also doesn't help with his set piece taking and shooting. It would almost have been better for him to have stayed with us last season and reinvent himself than move to Fulham just for the sake of staying in the top flight.

Ok I'll wait for someone bright enough to realise there's a half-way interesting debate to be had here. They'll show up eventually

Yeah, exactly. That's the spell I'm talking about. Most people in this thread have completely erased it from their minds, as though Adel went straight from the championship to the present day, without changing at all as a player. Under Hughes he really was on the way to becoming a far better, if less exciting player (the Joe Cole journey i mentioned earlier).

No idea why he was allowed to take so many set pieces, but I wouldn't hold that against him. At a better club there would always be a specialist. It annoys me when Barton hogs all of ours too, but it speaks badly of his professionalism (especially as captain) more than it does his ability as a player (at least he's half decent and better at taking them than say Dunne or Hoilett).

              • I spotted Adel in the scrimmage video QPR posted on their facebook page this morning,

Maybe he realized he his at least here till January and has to play well in order to move out then, that can only be beneficial

Only beneficial? No. Lets see how beneficial it is when (not if) he throws one of his strops.

Arrr what an insult mate, really got me there you did.. it actually hurt. There is a reason why Furtive Fox is the only person debating with you.

True enough, West London. Fella knows his stuff, but seems to be always arguing the odds in an unfriendly, tiresome manner. Shame.

                        • Question for the raters. Keep hearing Adel was great under Hughes etc well if he was so great playing for Hughes and he has so much potential as your suggest why has Hughes not tried to sign him when he has a reputation for signing his previous players??

                          Comment

                          • I'm not a fan of Adele but he did have a good spell for a month or two under Hughes where he started to look like he was growing up as a player. Unfortunately it didn't last hence nobody wants him. As to potential it is limited in view due to lack of pace and very poor set pieces and shooting. Nutmegs and step overs only get you so far!

I'm a lot more polite than others are to me, see eg the casual homophobia last page. Considering I put across my case with evidence etc and get a load of one liner "get rid end of" type posts in return I think the odd snide comment is the least I am entitled to!

                              • Imagine if we did play him, we would of won this by an even bigger margin.
