The issue of agents in football has rumbled on for many years and most people in the game have their own opinion about the legitimacies of such figures.

High-profile faces such as Sir Alex Ferguson and his Manchester United captain Gary Neville have come out and called on younger players to try to sway away from relying on agents to handle every part of their life in recent weeks.

You can see why agents do what they do, there are young men out there earning thousands of pounds a week, most of which have little education behind them.

They could be seen as easy prey by some unscrupulous characters and while many from outside the game cannot be certain of what these men do, I hope the comments from Neville that players need someone to buy them a fridge are in reality wide of the mark.

One football blog on the Premier League has taken Neville’s comments and got an agent to record his diary for a week – its pretty interesting reading I must say.

There is no doubt that agents are going to be in the game as long as there is large lumps of money to be made out of it, lets just hope that the vast majority of them are good-willed and not just looking to take rich young men for a ride.

It must be a hard life being a professional footballer.
