Chris Ramsey will be looking for a reaction from his players as QPR travel to Huddersfield on Saturday, following a dismal 2-1 loss to League 2 Carlisle in the week. Admittedly it was far from a full strength side on Tuesday night as 10 changes were made from the side that beat Rotherham 3 days before, but QPR fans would have still expected their team to be in the hat when the draw was made for the 3rd round on Tuesday evening.

Saturday will be only the third meeting between the Hoops and the Terriers since they found themselves battling it out in League 2 back in 2003. The points were shared following a 1-1 draw when they last met at John Smith’s stadium in 2013, with QPR recording a 2-1 win at Loftus Road later in the season courtesy of a brace from Charlie Austin.

Alex Smithies might have expected to make his League debut against his old team in this match but did himself no favours with a hesitant performance on Tuesday night. Matt Phillips and Tjaronn Chery will both likely be restored to the starting lineup on Saturday and, barring a substantial bid beforehand, Charlie Austin will be expected to join them. With these three in the side Hoops fans should have few worries about scoring goals but at the other end of the pitch there are major concerns developing.

Rangers have now conceded twice in 5 of their 6 games this season and the way they were cut open by Carlisle on Tuesday, in particular by journeyman Ghanian Derek Asamoah, was alarming. Based on that showing Ramsey will have his work cut out to plug the leaks in his defence but Huddersfield, who have been far from potent in front of goal so far this season, might be a good place to turn things round.

Current odds:

QPR Win - 2.76
Draw - 3.55
Huddersfield Win - 2.70
